The actor recently sat down with ET’s Rachel Smith, and offered some insight on a few of the surprising and challenging revelations from his new memoir.
Crews is widely appreciated for his work in comedy, starring in beloved films and sitcoms including Idiocracy, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Everybody Hates Chris, White Chicks and serving as the affable, supportive host of America’s Got Talent.
However, the actor explained that due to his difficult childhood – living with a physically abusive father and having a strained relationship with his devoutly religious and strict mother – he grew up with anger issues that threatened his career, his relationships and his life.
“You have to understand, I lived life like it was a revenge movie… I mean, for a man like me, it was better than sex. It’s like, ‘I’m gonna get everybody back whoever did anything wrong to me ever,’” he said. “And that is fuel, it’s motivation. But it burns out.”
“[One time], someone disrespected my wife and I literally picked this man up, put him on his head on the concrete and my wife was like, ‘Whoa, that was way overkill!’ It was too much. The punishment did not fit the crime for what he did,” Crews recalled of a time in his relationship with wife Rebecca King-Crews, whom he married in 1990.
“It would happen all the time and my wife pulled me to the side she said, ‘Terry, come here, you have to understand, you’re gonna lose everything.’ She said, ‘At a minimum, you’re gonna get sued, OK? And at the maximum, someone is going to kill you. Either the police, or you come up on the wrong guy on the wrong day.’ She said, ‘I want you to be here for our kids and me… because I don’t see you being here,’” Crews recalled.
“She was like, ‘Promise me you’ll just walk away. I’ll be OK.’ And I made that promise,” he continued. “And little did I know that it would save my life.”
For Crews, the only way to change his outlook and behavior was to go to therapy – something he’d been conditioned by his community and family as a child to distrust and disdain.
“I had this aversion to therapy that was built in the culture,” Crews said. However, with no real alternative — and because he wanted to get his life together – he decided to try it. “I went and, low and behold, it was like a light that shines. It was like thinking that the sun went around the Earth and then you find out one day that we go around the sun.”
“It was a domino effect. It affected everything,” he added. “It was like if someone said to clean one room and then you notice how dirty the other rooms are… finally, instead of trying to clean the house, I had to tear it down. I tore the whole house down and started over from scratch. It was one of the most painful, unbelievable transformations and it was tough. But it was worth it, because I would not be here right now if I hadn’t done it.”
While Crews said he was able to get through his anger issues, that was far from the only thing his relationship with his wife would have to weather during their marriage. As he discusses candidly in his new book, he also struggled with an addiction to pornography that once again threatened to end his marriage.
“I was nine years old when I was exposed to pornography and I would say that’s abusive. The fact that I was able to get it, the fact that I was able to look at it, and it became something I used as a crutch, to numb all this pain, even before I met Rebecca,” Crews shared.
However, during their relationship, Crews said the addiction remained and got worse.
“It was also my secret, and I never told her, ever. We went through 20 years of our marriage and I never told her,” he said. “I kept this thing hidden down. It actually led to some infidelity in the marriage and I never ever told her. I vowed that I would never tell. I was like, ‘I’m going to the grave with this stuff.’”
“But my wife knew something was wrong because we kept getting farther and farther apart,” he recalled. “And when she addressed me and finally put the question to me, ‘What is it that I don’t know about you, Terry Crews?’ And I told… I was thinking, ‘Well, you know, finally we can get past this.’ She was like, ‘Uh uh, nope, I’m out. I’m gone.’”
“She always said, ‘I love you, this is why I have to leave you.’ That was the whole [thing]. It wasn’t judgmental, it was always like, ‘I love you too much to even stay with you right now,’” he shared. “It was so deep, and I was like, ‘If she can make these kind of statements to me, then how could I not do the work?’”
Crews explained that it took a lot of work to fight his addiction, because a great deal of overcoming it was learning about it and how it was hurting, and where the addiction stemmed from.
“And we did it together. Rebecca was right there and she actually regrouped with me,” Crews said. “I went on a 90-day sex fast [with] her. And people were like, ‘Whoa, that’s crazy!’ But let me tell you something — what was so beautiful about that, was it took me to a time when I was 12 years old and I liked a girl and I didn’t know anything about sex. But all I did was give her a flower and say, ‘I like you for who you are.’” And it wasn’t about sex. It took us back to those moments. I felt like I was 12 years old again, because sex had been taken out of the equation and it was all about love again.”
“I couldn’t believe it. It was the best. At first, I was like, ‘Oh my god, this is gonna be horrible.’ It was the best thing that we had ever done,” he added.
Before reaching this point in their relationship, however, Crews said he reached some fairly dark depths, where he contemplated taking his own life, and struggled with his rage — which he also directed toward himself. And, due to his growing fame, he found it harder to find people who would force him to address his problems.
“When you’re really successful, no one will call you on your stuff. Everyone will tell you, ‘You’re amazing. You’re great. Oh, no, that’s no big deal, man, look at you! You’re making money, you’re famous, your face is on the billboard, you got nothing to complain about.’ But inside, I was a mess,” Crews recalled. “Success is the warmest place to hide.”
The only one who knew something was wrong, and could see though the fog of success and fame, was his wife.
“She is my rock… There’s nothing like having someone who knows you in and out, all the stuff, and loves you anyway,” he said. “That was the thing I was scared of. Like, if Rebecca found out who I really was, she’d leave. But what happened was, she found out who I really was and she told me she loved me anyway, and that blew my mind.”
Crews’ new book, Tough: My Journey to True Power – which also details his relationship with his mother, how he got into acting and the many obstacles he’s faced along the way – is out now.
West has two appearances on the new Pusha T album, “It’s Almost Dry,” and on one of them, he gets extra personal.
Kanye West has two appearances on the new Pusha T album, It’s Almost Dry.
He rhymes alongside Pusha and Kid Cudi on “Rock N Roll” and revisits a familiar topic on “Dreamin Of The Past,” according to E! News.
“Born in the manger, the son of a stranger/When Daddy’s not home, the family’s in danger,” Ye raps on “Dreamin of the Past” – and he appears to be talking about his own family and the four children he shares with his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian.
West has repeatedly accused Kardashian and kin of keeping him away from their children, North, who is 8; Saint, who’s 6; 4-year-old Chicago and Psalm, 2.
Last month, Kardashian refuted West’s claims that he doesn’t see the youngsters after the rapper-producer wrote in a now-deleted Instagram post, “This was on my daughter’s backpack when I was ‘allowed’ to see her last week,” alongside a photo of North’s bag, which featured pins of Kim, Kanye and an alien. “This is why I go so hard for my family I am wired to protect my family at all cost As the priest of my home Don’t worry Northy God is still alive.”
Kardashian commented: “Please stop with this narrative, you were just here this morning picking up the kids for school.”
In an interview with Robin Roberts, Kardashian said that she and West will remain “family.”
“So, you know, I hate that it had to play out like that,” she told Roberts. “But when it comes to family, I mean – Kanye and I will always be family. At the end of the day, I just want my kids to be happy and healthy and think the world of their dad. And they do.”
“Dreamin of the Past” isn’t the first time West has aired his feelings about his marriage. On the single “Eazy,” featuring The Game, West rapped, “God saved me from this crash/Just so I could beat Pete Davidson’s a**.” A video for the song was shared on social media depicting West watering roses growing out of the decapitated SNL cast member’s head. Davidson has reportedly been dating Kardashian.
Per Page Six, earlier this month, West maintained that he was “committed to a healthy co-parenting relationship with Kim and is focused on raising their beautiful children.”
At the just ended Huawei ICT Competition regional finals held in South Africa, the all-girls team from Ghana placed 2nd amongst the 6 teams that contested for the competition under the Innovation track.
The girls, Esther Aboagyewaa Abankwa, Martha Esinam Kekele Demanya and Gladys Obuobi who are final year students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology came second with their AI project topic, “WaterBits” – An Artificial Intelligence-Based Water Quality Predictor, which automatically classifies the quality of water and determines its safety for drinking.
Speaking on their project, “WaterBits”, the team lead, Gladys Obuobi mentioned that, statistics from the United Nations (UN) report indicate that about 1.5 million people living in rural communities die each year from contaminated water-driven diseases hence their Artificial Intelligence solution, designed to help address the issue.
The Dean for Quality Assurance and Planning Unit at KNUST, Professor Jerry John Kponyo, praised the girls for making it to the global finals and making their institution proud.
He assured them of KNUSTs unflinching support in the quest to ensure that the team make Ghana proud at the Global finals.
Mr Kponyo further encouraged the team to believe in themselves and work harder towards winning the ultimate prize.
“Your innovation has the potential to impact a lot of lives in the rural communities and that should be your motivation,” Mr Kponyo said.
He commended Huawei for giving the ladies the opportunity to explore their potential and prove themselves through the Huawei Seeds for the Future Women in Tech Initiative.
Jenny Zhou, Director for Public and Government Affairs at Huawei Ghana also commended the ladies for being the only girls’ team to make it to the global finals.
She encouraged them to put in more effort to make Ghana proud at the global finals.
“Coming this far means you are very capable and can do better if more effort is put into it. Personally, I am glad you are projecting Ghana as the only team with ladies competing at the global finals. I believe you have been well connected through this program and this will go a long way to shape your career path,” she said.
Prof. Lidia Arthur Brito, the UNESCO Regional Director for Southern Africa, commended Huawei for building the capacity and skills of young talents in the Sub-region, by giving them the opportunity to be a part of the digital world.
“Technologies can indeed empower people, commodities, countries and continents but technologies can also discriminate and leave people out of this development. By raising the capacity and skills of young talents in different spheres, I say this is immensely appreciated.”
According to her, participation of women in ICT is very low, however, she is glad more women are being trained by Huawei in various technologies like AI.
She congratulated the various academic institutions for supporting Huawei to make the ICT Competition inclusive to all.
This year, 15 000 students from over 200 universities and colleges from Sub-Saharan Africa participated in the 2021-2022 Huawei ICT Competition.
From the 48 competing teams, Nigerian and Kenyan teams won first prize in the regional final. Teams from Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, and Tanzania claimed the second prize.
The South African team which reached the top ten of the 2021 Huawei Global Tech4Good Competition for designing an intrusion detection system that uses wireless and cloud technologies to curb rhino poaching was honoured with a Top Performance Prize.
Over the past five years, 80 000 university students from Africa registered for the competition, and more than 20 teams entered the global finals.
The Huawei ICT competition has grown into the biggest competition of its kind in Africa and across the globe.
It offers a global stage for students to showcase and practice their ICT knowledge and skills.
Nigeria’s secret police have warned of possible bomb attacks during celebrations for Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
In a statement, spokesperson Peter Afunanya said the Department of State Services (DSS) had uncovered a plot by suspected gangs to carry out attacks on critical infrastructure, places of worship and recreation centres.
The warning comes after recent explosions at bars in the north-eastern states of Taraba and Yobe that killed several people.
A splinter faction of Boko Haram known as Islamic State West Africa Province (Iswap) said it carried out the attacks.
Controversial entertainment pundit Mr Logic says rapper Sarkodie would not welcome the disadvantages attached to being a diplomatic passport holder.
This comes after Sarkodie recalled a conversation he had with the French ambassador to Ghana, Anne Sophie AVÉ, about artists deserving to have diplomatic passports to “move freely and easily to spread the word about Ghana”.
“As an ambassador for Ghana who is always on the move, I shouldn’t go through a hassle in trying to spread the word about my country,” Sarkodie recounted.
In response, Mr Logic said: “You don’t want to experience the disadvantages of having a diplomatic passport. You don’t want it – it won’t help you,” he told Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz via Hitz FM.https://www.youtube.com/embed/Elp87wQqpHw?feature=oembed
Mr Logic stated that the rapper should prepare himself to be “regulated by the government” since he is asking for a document that comes with stringent conditions and rules, tailored to the holder’s profession.
He went further to state that the rapper would need a diplomatic passport only if he is willing to abide by the strict regulations it comes with.
According to Logic, these regulations include; how to dress, the content of the artiste’s music, where to be at a particular time and whatnot — and Sarkodie being a musician, these rules might be difficult to follow since he is a commercial artist.
The outspoken radio personality also urged the “Original” hitmaker to focus on acquiring visa waivers instead of a diplomatic passport because the latter wouldn’t be “necessary” to the rapper.
“What he should be asking for should be visa waivers,” Logic said. “I don’t see what Sarkodie would do with a diplomatic passport,” he continued.
Mr Logic is of the view that the demerits of holding a diplomatic passport outweigh the merits — especially for an artist.
A diplomatic passport, also known as a service passport is a type of international identity document issued by the State defining the positions of diplomats and granting them privileges. It is used by high-ranking government officials to travel internationally with more ease.
It is commonly used by diplomats who are stationed overseas.
Rapper and singer Kwesi Arthur does not think Efia Odo stole the shine when she appeared at his album listening in a sensual outfit on Thursday.
Although the actress’ see-through black dress turned many heads at the private listening session of the ‘Son of Jacob’ album, which garnered a massive reaction on social media, the ‘Baajo’ singer does not believe Efia’s presence defeated the purpose of the event.
In an interview on Monday at Daybreak Hitzwith Andy Dosty, he said: “I haven’t paid attention to how it was reported, but yeah, I think we had a successful event, and I am grateful to everyone who showed up,” Kwesi Arthur said via Hitz FM.https://www.youtube.com/embed/Y_v8DdfhRho?feature=oembed
Andrea Owusu, famously known as Efia Odo, wore a long black dress that fairly exposed her breasts and revealed a larger portion of her left hip down to her thigh.
Pictures of the outspoken actress surfaced on social media, leading her to top the trends on Twitter on Thursday night.
When Kwesi Arthur was asked about his immediate reaction upon seeing the model at his album listening session, the ‘No Regrets’ rapper said he complimented her daring looks — and he only saw a woman who wore an outfit to an event.
“She looked nice,” said Arthur. “I thought that was some hard fit,” he added.
For the past two years, rumours have been rife that the two were dating. However, Kwesi Arthur says he is “friends” with Efia Odo.
Efia Odo corroborates with the rapper, describing him as her “bestie” – in other words, ‘best friend’.
The ‘Group Up Chale’ artiste is currently on a media tour to promote his debut album, ‘Son of Jacob’.
The project is a 15-track album that embodies the life of a young hustler who addresses the challenges of becoming successful, dealing with enemies, finding love and praising God through it all.
Leader of the Economic Fighters League, Ernesto Yeboah on Sunday ruffled some feathers when he declared that violence can not be ruled out of the question when looking at how the African youth will liberate themselves and their continent.
Speaking via Zoom on the acclaimed academic Prof Toyin Falola’s ‘Toyin Falola Interviews’ in a conversation co-hosted by Afia ‘Vim Lady’ Pokua, Nana Ansah Kwao IV, and Dr Charles Prempeh, the ‘calm, poised but unapologetic’ leader of the Nkrumahist movement responded to rigorous questioning on how African youth can steer the continent to prosperity.
He stated that while the Economic Fighters League continues to pursue advocacy such as capacity building towards economic empowerment, recent interactions with local youths in various locations across Ghana has revealed that the youth have lost patience with their leaders and seek to be armed so as to bring about change.
Mr Yeboah went on to say how movements like EFL are preventing a descent into violence, by presenting new alternatives for the reclamation of power for the people, in the interest of the people.
The Economic Fighters League has for years been championing the dismantling of the current system in Ghana, which they say has disenfranchised and impoverished people still trying to complete the process of liberation from colonial oppression.
Their campaign for a new constitution to replace the 1992 Constitution of the republic is aimed at raising awareness of the fact that the current one does not serve the people, instead; serving to protect the political elite and further disenfranchise Ghanaians.
Mr Yeboah compared the Ghanaian Constitution with those of Nigeria, where nationals are also demanding change at a constitutional level.
When probed by the co-hosts on whether EFL’s strategy includes exploring alternatives like revisiting the pre-colonial systems of governance as well as mobilising technology, Mr Yeboah consistently brought the conversation back to the core issue – a youth with no support or infrastructure on which to build a future, all evidence of bad leadership on the part of many African leaders.
Prof Toyin then highlighted some of the comments made about African Youth by leaders including President Muhammadu Buhari, prompting Yeboah to deliver a fiery condemnation of the Nigerian President’s violent suppression of activists (citing the Lekki Massacre of #EndSARS activists), as well as his inaction to improve the poor state of the most populous black nation in the world.
On the allegation that the Youth of Africa are ‘just drug dealers and prostitutes’, he pointed out that those making these claims are the ones who created the conditions that pushed African youth in this direction, saying “You don’t blame the victims, you blame the perpetrators.”
Questioned again whether he advocates violence as a means of liberating the continent Yeboah said, “You don’t set fire under a pot and then ask the pot: why are you hot?”
The conversation was a spirited one, with the expected tensions around the issue of how we can free and sustainably develop Africa. Many members of Yeboah’s EFL made their own well-articulated submissions, revealing to viewers a movement that is not centred around a personality, but collective, considered thought.
Several members challenged the idea that the Youth should not aggressively challenge their elders, a sentiment that Yeboah wrapped up succinctly towards the end of the interview, saying of Buhari, “A tree that orders the cutting down of the younger trees in the forest is not thinking of the future.”
Yeboah closed his submissions by stating that the people of Africa should never forgive, nor should they forget what their leaders have done with the power they hold, stating that each and every one should be held accountable for their actions.
“We need to build a new culture based on truth. If we can’t look each other in the face based on truth, what future are we building?”
It’s official. Twitter Inc. has announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement under which it will be acquired “by an entity wholly owned by Elon Musk.”
The cash deal at $54.20 per share brings the total to roughly $44 billion. Once the transaction is completed, Twitter announced Monday afternoon, that the company will go private.
“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,” Musk said.
“I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spambots, and authenticating all humans. Twitter has tremendous potential—I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it.”
Twitter’s board reportedly met Elon Musk over the weekend to explore his $43bn (£33.6bn) takeover offer for the social media platform.
After the Tesla boss first revealed his bid, Twitter’s management announced a so-called “poison pill” strategy to fend off a potential hostile buyout.
Mr Musk plans to finance his bid with the backing of US lender Morgan Stanley and other financial institutions.
A spokesperson for Twitter declined to comment on the reports.
Details of how Mr Musk intended to finance his offer, which were disclosed to US regulators on Thursday, made Twitter’s 11-member board seriously consider a possible deal, according to Reuters, the New York Times and Bloomberg – citing anonymous sources.
Mr Musk, who owns a more than 9% stake in Twitter, has lined up a $46.5bn financing package for his bid, according to a regulatory filing.
The funding will come from a mixture of his own assets and the backing of Wall Street banking giant Morgan Stanley and other firms.
A number of Twitter shareholders reportedly contacted the company after Mr Musk announced the financing plan and urged it not to miss the opportunity for a potential deal.
Dan Ives, an analyst at investment firm Wedbush Securities, said many investors will view the discussions “as the beginning of the end for Twitter as a public company, with Musk likely now on a path to acquire the company unless a second bidder comes into the mix”.
A hostile takeover attempt by Mr Musk, who is the world’s richest person, would put “further pressure on the board with their backs against the wall in this Game of Thrones battle for Twitter,” Mr Ives added.
Earlier this month, Mr Musk refused a seat on Twitter’s board, which would have limited the shares he was allowed to own. He then made made an unsolicited offer for the company on 14 April.
The next day, Twitter’s board announced a plan to protect itself against a potential hostile takeover by adopting what is known as a “limited-duration shareholder rights plan”, also known as a “poison pill”.
The move deters anyone from having more than a 15% stake in the company. It does this by allowing others to buy additional shares in the firm at a discount.
A takeover bid is considered to be hostile when a person or business tries to take over another company against the wishes of the target firm’s management.
Nicolas Cage is sharing some exciting news! The Oscar winner recently revealed that he is “thrilled” to be expecting a baby girl with wife Riko Shibata.
Cage sat down for an upcoming episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, and made the heartwarming announcement while promoting his new comedy, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
“I’m gonna announce some big news for everybody – I’m gonna have a little girl,” Cage said, smiling.
He also explained that he and Shibata have already decided on a name, which is inspired both by his “favourite song ever written” – The Beatles’ “Across the Universe,” off their 1970 album Let It Be – and his father’s name, August Coppola.
“Her name is gonna be Lennon Auggie,” Cage shared. “I’m gonna call her Lenny for short.”
After some heartfelt celebration and congrats from Clarkson, Cage marvelled, “I’m thrilled! It’s gonna be the biggest adventure of my life.”https://www.youtube.com/embed/WAUOevFI9ZU
Cage spoke with ET’s Will Marfuggi last week at the Los Angeles premiere of his new movie, and he shared what he’s most looking forward to about welcoming a new baby into his life.
“I miss it all. I miss watching a child discover things for the first time,” Cage, who is already a dad to Weston, 31, and Kal-El, 16, gushed.
“The way the sunlight shines through a leaf. Taking them to have a lobster dinner and have them freak out at the table, ‘What the heck is Daddy eating? What is that thing? It looks like a monster, like a giant bug!’ All that stuff.”
“I miss going to the toy store. I miss singing lullabies. I miss rocking in rocking chairs,” he continued. “I was really hoping for another child. My boys are all grown up, so this will be great.”
Meanwhile, Cage’s full interview with Clarkson airs Tuesday, April 26.
The 37-year-old, a Conservative MP for Bridgend since 2019, said he had received an “incredible amount of support” since he came out.
He also told the programme the transition process would take many years and he still preferred to use the pronouns he and him.
Mr Wallis said he was eight years old when he first started “trying to work out what this was”, but without ready access to the internet he had no idea “whether this was something that affected just me or whether there were other people that might feel like this”.
As a result of this, he said he came to the wrong conclusion and believed “maybe there was some sort of horrible mistake or something had gone very wrong”.
He added: “I think now that I am out and people do know, I’m free to start that and actually go on that journey at a pace that I find comfortable.”
Mr Wallis admitted he tried to “run away” from who he was for years until the past six to 12 months before he “realised, actually, I am no longer ashamed of this”.
He advised other young people struggling with their gender identity to take their time discovering themselves and “don’t feel rushed to pick up a label or view it in any way”.
In last month’s tweet, Mr Wallis revealed a man sent pictures to his family in 2020 and demanded £50,000.
He said in that statement that the blackmailer pleaded guilty to the crime and was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison.
The rape was a separate incident and it is not known if anyone has been arrested or charged in connection with this.
He told Sophy Ridge he met someone but was “not OK with not being what I consider to be responsible and safe practice in the bedroom, so I withdrew consent”.
He went on to say how the man “decided that he was going to do it anyway and I was powerless to stop him”, adding that “in that moment, a part of me died and I have been trying to get it back ever since”.
Mr Wallis said he still suffered nightmares and flashbacks about the attack, which prompted him to seek help.
He added: “I’m not OK, I’m not the person I was before that happened, but I am at least in a place where I can get on with my life whilst I am dealing with it.”
Mr Wallis was arrested last year on suspicion of driving while unfit, following an incident where a car hit a lamppost in Llanblethian, Vale of Glamorgan, on 28 November.
He said he fled the scene as he was “terrified” and had “no idea what I was doing except I was overcome by an overwhelming sense of fear”.
South Wales Police said the matter was still under investigation.
On episode two of Tems‘ ‘Leading Vibe Radio,’ on Apple Music 1, she is joined by her manager, Muyiwa and Def Jam boss, Tunji Balogun, to explore ‘The Other Side’ of humanity as they talk self-awareness, fear, celebrity, therapy and empathy.
Here are some excerpts from the chat;
Tems On Focus, Taking Time Between Releasing Music And How People React To That
People imagine themselves to be in your position, but don’t actually understand the actual work that goes into it. So everything that they say is based on their imagination.
One thing that a lot of people never notice until now is that the first half of every single year, since I ever released music is my time to work on myself, work on my music, do everything I need to do. And in that time it seems like, “Oh my God, what’s going on?” Nothing is going on.
And people start talking because everybody is scared. It looks like they have something important to say, or they have something reasonable to say, but really it’s fear.
And they’re scared for me in quotes, but if you go to the roots of that, it’s really because they’re afraid of doing what they really want to do. And they feel like, “Oh, how can this person just be chilling? What is she doing?” But you actually don’t know what I do on a daily basis. You actually don’t know how my life actually is in real life; you can’t even fathom it.
And if you were me, do you know whether you’d be alive? Do you know whether you wouldn’t have done something by now? Do you know whether you would’ve handled it better than me? Because you don’t know what I’ve seen or what I’ve gone through. And a lot of this is really self-projection. Just projecting your own fears.
Tems On Whether She Thinks About How People Will Receive Her Music
Honestly, I don’t. Maybe on the day that we’re releasing it, the day of, I’ll start looking for everything. Every reason why this song, this project should not be out. I’ll start thinking, oh my gosh, what have I done? I’ll start having last-minute anxiety.
And when I know I can’t do anything about it, it’s already something that is gone. Even if I said, oh, let’s not do it, I can’t actually stop it, but I just always decide all the time to have that last minute bout of drama. I just have some drama going on just before the 12 midnight, I’ll start acting dramatic. Just because it is my, “oh, it’s finally out” way of celebrating. It’s a ritual.
Apart from that, I really don’t. Do you think Picasso ever thought, “Hmm, I wonder if the way people think right now will stop them from understanding this art. Maybe I should draw something that people can receive well.”
I don’t. I mean, imagine if he did that, and we probably would not know his name, which real artist thinks about how people would receive something? Even if you took the formula, the reason why everybody should like something, you still find people that absolutely hate it and absolutely cannot digest it and absolutely dislike it.
Even if I decided I’m going to do a project that’s hits only.
According to what I think people think is a hit, I would do a project that’s hits only. Hits only. Hits only. It sounds mad. It sounds like a great idea. But when it comes out, there’ll be something that doesn’t quite gel. And it’s not just because I have become a slave to people’s opinions. It’s also that there’s nobody in this life that everybody likes.
There’s nobody. Art is an extension of you. Everybody cannot like your art because everybody cannot understand you. Everybody cannot receive what you’re trying to send. And what you’re really just trying to send is the truth from your eyes.
How you see life, everybody can’t see how life, the way you see life. So why worry about whether they’ll see it from your perspective. If you don’t, you don’t, I’ll be fine either way. I’m still alive.
Tems On Whether She Actively Tries To Make Songs That Will Empower Her Listeners
No. I don’t think that because you don’t think. Art is not something that is created out of thinking, it’s created out of doing. You just open your mouth and sing.
When I freestyle, when I make things, when I made “Replay,” I literally just opened my mouth and I just started singing. I didn’t think about, “Oh, this is empowering.” Even when I made “Free Mind,” I was dealing with a lot in my mind. And me, I was just releasing.
I was just like, oh God. I was just feeling it deeply. I wasn’t thinking about anything. It’s not a thought process. You don’t think about breathing.
I would never regret anything I released because I know that came from my soul and that’s what is important. Every single song came from a true place. So the only way I can ever regret is if I do think, “Hmm, what would people like?”
And then I release it and realize, that’s not me at all. Why did I do this? I don’t even believe the things I’m saying, why did I do this? And then I’m unhappy, while everybody’s happy. And everybody is feeling great with that song. And there’ll still be haters on that song too.
But if that song now went up, now I know that I hate that song with my life. Every time I perform it, I know it’s not me. And then I’ve trapped myself into a marriage with this song that I know I don’t really believe in. So who loses, who wins? Because the people that are listening to it, is it a win for them?
Do they actually get anything tangible from that thing that isn’t true, from that song that isn’t your real life? So what was the point?
Some people’s way of creating is thinking about the masses. That’s perfectly fine. But for me and for any real artist, if you want to be happy, because you can have all the money in the world, you can have all the hits in the world and you’ll be miserable and you’ll be trapped because you now start feeling like you can’t express the real you after making so many hits.
Then you can’t, you’re afraid to show people who you actually are. Because you feel they won’t accept you. And then you trap yourself in your mind and you live your life continuously miserable.

Ivory Coast’s navy has seized a record amount of cocaine plastic-wrapped in small bundles bearing the tattered logos of French fashion house Louis Vuitton and Pacena Black, a dark beer from Bolivia.
The 411 kilograms of cocaine destined for the commercial capital Abidjan came from a Spanish-flagged ship that had been spotted by the navy idling 250 km (155 miles) off the coast since Jan. 30, the navy said in a statement on Wednesday.
The ship offloaded the drugs onto a smaller boat which was picked up by a special unit of the Ivorian navy on Monday at about 1830 GMT, the navy said. Five people were also taken into custody.
It was not yet clear where the cocaine originated from or who was responsible for trafficking it.
Camera footage provided by the Ivorian navy on Wednesday showed hundreds of the seized packages laid out on tables.
Major drug hauls in Ivory Coast are rare, but over the last 18 months several large cocaine seizures have been made along the West African Atlantic Coast, a frequent stopping point for South American cocaine heading to Europe. About 40 tonnes pass through the region annually, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
About 9.5 tonnes were seized in the island archipelago of Cape Verde last year in one of the biggest hauls ever. Last September, police in Guinea-Bissau seized more than 1.8 tonnes hidden in flour bags, the biggest in the country’s history.
The vagina is an important part of the female anatomy, but many people know very little about it.
“When we do exams in the office, we get out a mirror, show women their vaginas and point out the anatomy of the area,” Dr. Lauren Streicher, a clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and creator of the podcast Dr. Streicher’s Inside Information, tells Yahoo Life. “For the majority of women, this is the first time they take a close look.”
Many people, Streicher adds, “don’t know the correct terminology and anatomy” for describing the area. Dr. Christine Greves, an ob-gyn at the Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies in Orlando, agrees. “A lot of women don’t know a whole lot about their vaginas,” she tells Yahoo Life.
As Dr. Jennifer Wider, a women’s health expert, tells Yahoo Life, “Whether the fault lies in sex education in the schools, public health messaging, self-reluctance or a combination, not knowing and understanding how the entire body functions and what is normal or abnormal could have health consequences.
“It’s vital to understand our bodies,” she says, “even the parts we can’t see all that well.”
With that in mind – and in honor of National Vagina Appreciation Day on April 23 – we checked in with some ob-gyns and came back with a few fascinating facts about vaginas.
Fact No. 1: The vagina is self-cleaning
The vagina is sometimes compared to a “self-cleaning oven,” as Greves puts it. The bacteria in the vagina include good bacteria called lactobacillus, she says, adding that they work something like a robot vacuum. “It just takes care of your vagina,” Greves says. “If you have the appropriate amount of lactobacillus, it’s able to combat the bad bacteria and yeast that could overgrow otherwise.”
The vagina also sheds its outermost cells to clean itself, flushing them out in discharges and mucus, Wider says.
Fact No. 2: You can’t actually ‘lose’ anything in your vagina
Horror stories float around online about women “losing” tampons in their vagina, but although foreign objects can get stuck in the vagina, losing them isn’t possible, Streicher says. “Everybody thinks the vagina is this open-ended road, but the truth is that it’s a dead end,” she says. “You can’t lose a tampon or anything in there, because it stops at the dead end.”
For most women, she says, that’s the cervix, the lower part of the uterus, which typically only opens during childbirth. In a hysterectomy, the back of the vagina is sewn closed, “So it’s still a dead end,” Streicher explains.
Fact No. 3: Vagina and vulva are not the same thing
Ob-gyns say they often hear their patients confusing the two. “I still have women come into the office and say that their vagina hurts when they mean their vulva,” Greves says. “People just use one term for the entire area.”
Streicher agrees. “No one uses the term ‘vulva,’” she says. “But the vagina is completely internal. Anything you see is the vulva.” Streicher says the reason for this is probably cultural. “Little girls aren’t taught the proper terminology, and no one uses it,” she says.
Fact No. 4: The depth of the vagina increases during arousal
Most women aren’t aware of this, Streicher says, but “During arousal, there is increased blood flow to the genitalia,” she explains. “It also lengthens in order to accommodate a penis – biologically, that’s why we have sex.” In general, “the aroused vagina is longer and a little more dilated than a non-aroused vagina,” she adds.
Fact No. 5: Your vagina isn’t supposed to be odor-free
Despite the frequent use of douches and other feminine deodorizing products, Streicher points out that it’s “normal for a vagina to have a scent.” (The use of douches and deodorant sprays are not recommended by ob-gyns, since they can lead to vaginal infections.)
“It’s normal for the vagina to have a light scent,” Streicher says. However, a strong, foul odor or fishy smell could be the sign of an infection – such as bacterial vaginosis, the most common vaginal infection in women – and should prompt a trip to the doctor, she says.
Fact No. 6: Vaginas and vulvas come in all shapes and sizes
Just like other body parts, every vulva and vagina looks slightly different. “Many women feel self-conscious about the appearance of their vulva, but they shouldn’t,” Wider says. “Vulvae come in all different shapes and sizes. There is a wide range of normal.”
Greves agrees, noting that the labia (the folds of skin around the vaginal opening) can be longer in some women and asymmetrical. “Everyone is different,” she adds.
Two Ghanaians in the US have been arrested for their roles in the alleged illegal transfer of money through online scam syndicates to perpetrators in Ghana.
The mother and daughter who are based in Maryland were picked up by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), per US court documents dated April 8, 2022.
According to court documents cited by Myjoyonline.com, Whitney Adams and her mother, Flava Annang were fingered as co-conspirators in helping their partners in Ghana facilitate fake romance and inheritance scams against unsuspecting victims in the US.
Meanwhile, Whitney Adams has been identified as a lavish-living Snapchat influencer named ‘Girl Boss.
She is known for luxurious international five-star vacations.
The District Court of Arizona in a statement of complaint revealed that the victims, usually elderly men and women, were convinced by the two “to send money to, or on behalf of, those fake romantic partners to collect a fake inheritance that was supposedly due to the romantic partner.”
According to the FBI Special Agent, “unknown co-conspirators created phoney online dating profiles and personas to engage in online chats, text messaging, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls, and otherwise with unwitting Victims located in the United States in efforts to convince those Victims they were involved in an online romantic relationship with a real person”.
Between July 2018 and April this year, the duo had reportedly opened multiple bank accounts to receive and negotiate funds sent by victims.
A$AP Rocky and Rihanna were reportedly forced to cancel their baby shower following his arrest this week.
The rapper and his pregnant girlfriend were arriving back from Barbados on Wednesday morning when he was detained by cops at a private terminal at LAX. He was held on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and released after posting $550,000 bail.
According to The Sun, Rihanna was emotional and had been “crying non-stop” after being blindsided by the arrest.
“She’s heavily pregnant and these are very serious accusations, it’s a nightmare scenario for her,” said a source.
As a result, the couple reportedly had to postpone the baby shower for their first child, which was slated to be held hours later on Wednesday night.
“It was meant to be Rihanna’s baby shower in L.A. on Wednesday night but they had to cancel,” added the source. “Rihanna was very, very upset and stressed by Rocky’s arrest. It’s not the best time for her to be on such an emotional rollercoaster.”
Rihanna previously spoke about what she envisioned for her baby shower. “No brunch, no blush tones. And no animal-shaped nothing,” she told Vogue. “I mean it’s lit for a lot of people–I’ve even planned a couple of baby showers like that myself–it’s just not right for me. Personally, I want a party. I want everyone to be plastered and crawling out. And it’s got to be co-ed! Don’t put me on no wicker chair somewhere with gifts at my feet where everyone is staring at me.”
Rocky’s arrest stems from a non-fatal shooting in Hollywood in November 2021. The victim, who was an acquaintance, claimed Rocky fired multiple shots during an argument. He sought medical treatment for a minor injury after one of the bullets grazed his left hand. Following Rocky’s arrest, officers searched his home in connection with the case.
A$AP Bari took to social media to accuse his fellow A$AP Mob member, A$AP Relli, of snitching on Rocky. “This rat ass ni**a told on Rocky,” Bari claimed.

Fugitive former Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn has said he wants to stand trial on charges of financial wrongdoing in order to clear his name.
He spoke to the BBC after France issued an international warrant for his arrest, citing allegedly suspect payments.
Mr Ghosn said he was “expecting” the move though he was “surprised at the timing”.
Mr Ghosn faced charges of financial misconduct when he fled Japan in 2019.
The former head of Nissan, once one of the most powerful figures in the car industry, is currently unable to leave Lebanon, as he is the subject of an Interpol Red Notice issued by Japan.
He told the BBC: “I want to stand trial because that’s the only way I can get rid of the Red Notice which today forbids me from leaving Lebanon.”
He said he wanted a trial in Lebanon on the charges brought against him in Japan, and any that emerge from the French investigation – and was “totally confident” he could prove his innocence.
Prosecutors in France are investigating claims that Mr Ghosn funnelled millions of euros from Renault through Suhail Bahwan Automobiles.
According to reports first published in the Wall Street Journal, he used the money for personal purchases including that of a 120-foot yacht.
An investigating magistrate in France has now issued five international arrest warrants against Mr Ghosn and four people linked to a car distributor in Oman.
Mr Ghosn told the BBC on Friday: “There was not one euro [from Nissan or Renault] that ended up benefitting me directly or indirectly”.
He denied he was a fugitive from justice – and repeated previous claims he had left Japan because he would not have had a fair trial there.
Mr Ghosn said the charges against him were part of a conspiracy to derail his plans for a full merger between Renault and Nissan.
Mr Ghosn once ran the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, one of the biggest car-making groups in the world.
He was arrested in Japan in late 2018, and faced a number of charges, including claims he deliberately mis-reported his earnings and used company money to fund his own lifestyle. He denied any wrongdoing.
He has previously spoken of his dramatic escape from Japan, which involved disguising himself to go unnoticed through the streets of Tokyo, being hidden in a large music equipment box and fleeing to his native Lebanon as he awaited trial.
Mr Ghosn, who holds Brazilian, Lebanese and French passports, cannot be extradited to France from Beirut, although he confirmed to the BBC that he has been questioned as part of the investigation.
‘Surprising’
He said he thought France had issued the arrest warrant because under its law the investigation could not be closed unless he was in French territory.
“So in a certain way we were expecting something like this to happen,” he said. “What was surprising was the timing…and also that we knew about it through an American newspaper…without me being officially alerted.”
Earlier, his lawyer, Jean Tamalet at King & Spalding, told the BBC: “We believe this move is the only technical resort they found to be able in the future to try the case in a court of law.”
Warrants were also issued against the current owners and former directors of the car distributor, Suhail Bahwan Automobiles.

A mural of Nelson Mandela has been unveiled in Liverpool ahead of a planned visit by his family.
The artwork in Toxteth pays tribute to the South African leader, who was given Freedom of the City of Liverpool in 1994 for his role in ending apartheid.
Created by local artist John Culshaw, it shows Mr Mandela in deep thought.
Stephen Nze, ambassador for charity Mandela8, who commissioned the piece, said he hoped the mural would “inspire people to stop and think”.
“We chose Nelson Mandela’s quote ‘education is the most powerful weapon we have to change the world’ as we want to encourage young people to look around and learn about the world for themselves,” he said.Mr Mandela’s daughter and grandaughter will open a memorial garden in the city in July
The city has always nurtured close links to the Mandela family after the black community campaigned vociferously against apartheid in the 1980s.
In 2018 Dr Makaziwe Mandela donated her father’s drawings for a permanent display in Liverpool’s St George’s Hall, which she showed to Prince Charles in 2019.
The mural on the Kuumba Imani Millennium Centre building on Princes Road is the first of two new memorial pieces being created in the area.
A memorial garden in the city’s Princes Park will be unveiled by Dr Mandela and granddaughter Tukwini Mandela in July.
It includes a bridge across the lake, a pavilion and inscriptions of Mr Mandela’s quotes.
The family visited the site of the garden in 2019 but the project, which was due to be completed in 2020, was delayed for two years due to the coronavirus pandemic.Nelson Mandela, who died in 2013, was given Freedom of the City of Liverpool in 1994
Sonia Bassey, chairman of Mandela8, said the mural unveiled this week would form the start of a planned heritage trail through leading to the memorial garden.
“It shows we are a strong and vibrant community, and it will be seen by thousands of people travelling on this major route into the city centre,” she said.
“We’ve already seen a real excitement about this work and it will become a major attraction.”
Mr Culshaw, who recently created murals dedicated to Beatles drummer Ringo Starr and Liverpool footballer Mo Salah, said it was “incredible” to be part of the project.
“People passing by have been stopping and talking to me non-stop about it,” he said.
A US congresswoman has denied calling for an “insurrection” in Washington as part of a trial challenging her right to stand for re-election.
Marjorie Taylor Greene is being tried under a Civil War-era law that bars officials from holding office if they violate their oath to protect the US.
The Georgia Republican, a close ally to Donald Trump, is one of the party’s most right-wing members in Congress.
Democrats claim she played a key role in the 6 January US Capitol riot.
On Friday, Ms Greene, 47, became the first sitting lawmaker to testify under oath about her alleged role in the attack in 2021, as Congress was meeting to cement Joe Biden’s election victory over Mr Trump.
She testified to the Georgia courtroom that she “had no knowledge of any attempt” to illegally interfere with vote counting in Congress that day.
She also repeated false claims that Mr Trump actually won the election.
The case centres around a provision of the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution – the “Insurrectionist Disqualification Clause” – which prohibits elected representatives from seeking office again if they “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof”.
Democrats may seek to use the same argument to bar Mr Trump from running if he attempts to throw his hat into the 2024 presidential election.
In a filing ahead of the trial, lawyers for Ms Greene said that she “vigorously denies that she aided and engaged in insurrection to obstruct the peaceful transfer of presidential power”.
In court, Ms Greene said: “I don’t support violence of any kind,” and denied having ever called for violence in her social media posts and media appearances.
Prosecutors allege that she made coded calls to arms on public platforms.
For example, on 5 January, one day before the riot, Ms Greene said in an interview: “This is our 1776 moment”, in what lawyers said was a reference to the year that the US declared independence from Britain, triggering a war.
Under oath, she said that she had no memory of that statement and denied that references to 1776 amounted to a secret call for violence. The Georgia state seal hanging in the court, she noted, has the year “1776” written on it, prompting a laugh from the judge.
Her lawyers have described her support for the 6 January riot as protected speech under the US Constitution’s First Amendment, which covers right to free expression.
The effort to ban Ms Greene from running is being led by Free Speech for People, a group that advocates for campaign finance reform. A similar suit against North Carolina Republican Madison Cawthorn was dismissed by a federal judge last month.
The hip-hop icon is revealing just how much he charges for a feature. Speaking with the “Full Send Podcast,” the rapper revealed that it will set you back a quarter-of-a-million dollars to get him on your song.“About $250,000,” he responded when asked what his going rate is these days.
“You get about 16 bars,” added the 50-year-old rapper.
And if you want him in the music video, it will cost another $250k, but you better move fast. “And you only got an hour, so get to filming,” said Snoop.
Snoop has been booked and busy. In addition to performing at the Super Bowl and releasing his album BODR in February, Death Row Records’ new owner can be seen hosting NBC’s musical competition series “American Song Contest” alongside Kelly Clarkson.
A 34-year-old Chinese woman who suffered a harrowing series of life events, including child loss, divorce and paralysis, has found love with her best friend’s son.
Yin Houping first met her best friend, Huang Junping, 51, in 2014 when the two became neighbors in Yichang, Hubei Province in central China. Yin’s 3-year-old son had recently fatally drowned, and Huang comforted Yin through her grief, reported South China Morning Post.
The two became close friends, and after Yin gave birth to her second child, Huang helped her care for her newborn daughter.
In 2016, Yin was hit by a falling tree branch and became paralyzed from the waist down. Shortly after her accident, Yin’s husband asked for a divorce that was finalized three years later when he took custody of their daughter.
In light of her single status, Huang suggested that Yin go on a date with her now-30-year-old son, Zhao Yingfeng. Huang reportedly believed that their personalities would balance with Yin’s extraversion and Zhao’s introversion.
Yin explained to the Morning Post that she initially believed that Zhao would not be interested in her as a result of her day-to-day struggles. Zhao, however, expressed his relentless support for Yin.
“I’m incontinent, I could stain my sheets and pants at any time, and I might not be able to have children in the future. Are you OK with that?” Yin recalled asking Zhao. He responded, saying, “It’s not a big deal.”
Yin suffered another accident in 2021 when she fell from her wheelchair, breaking several bones. While bedridden, Zhao took care of Yin’s daily needs such as cutting her nails and bathing her. She describes this as the moment when she realized that she envisioned Zhao as her “future husband.”
“It was then that I really accepted him as my future husband in my heart,” Yin said.
The couple got married in October 2021 and are now expecting their first child in two months.
“He once told me: ‘If there are only two of us in this life, I am willing to take care of you until we are both old, and I am a few years younger than you, so I can still carry you then,’” Yin said.
After a massive double gameweek 33 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), the final five weeks await FPL managers, and this is the time to win your mini-league, organisational league or finish in a respectable position to do better next season. Your FPL Ambassador and Joy FM’s FPL champion, takes you through the final strategies for a glorious end to the season.
KEY GAMEWEEKS TO NOTE
Double Gameweeks to Note
DGW34 Manchester United & Chelsea
DGW36 Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal Aston Villa, Leeds, Leicester, Norwich, Watford, Everton.
DGW37 Leicester, Everton, Palace, Aston Villa, Burnley.
*Wolves & Man City might double in GW36 or 37 (yet to be confirmed)
KEY PLAYERS TO END THE SEASON WITH
Some players like Salah, Kane, Son, Trent Alexander-Arnold or Cancelo are already owned by most managers. If you don’t own at least 3 of these players, then you are missing out. Aside these key players for everyone’s squads, these other players must be bought.
CHELSEA ASSETS
With Chelsea doubling in Gameweeks 34 and 36 over the final stretch, a good combination of their midfield and defence depending on your squad budget is essential. Priority defenders are Reece James, Alonso or Rudiger whilst priority midfielders are Mason Mount and Havertz.
LEICESTER ASSETS
With Leicester City also doubling in 36 and 37, their key assets to invest in are James Maddison (MID), Lookman (MID) and Kasper Schmeichel (GK).
MAN CITY ASSETS
Man City will double in either GW36 or GW37 (to be confirmed) but despite just one double, the defending EPL Champions have one of the best sets of games to end the season with relatively easier games to manage as they seek to win the EPL TITLE ahead of Liverpool.
A double-up in their defence with another defender alongside the aforementioned Cancelo will assure a respectable number of clean sheets: Ruben Dias, Laporte or Walker depending on your squad budget.
City’s midfield is quite tricky with the expensive Kevin De Bruyne (KdB) back on form but none of their cheaper assets a sure return for points on City’s easier run. Phil Foden is the only one I would advise managers to invest in due to his greater assurance of minutes on the field for their attacking assets after KdB.
Budget Player to end the season with is Gordon (Everton)
